To see a more detailed route map for Sail Komodo 2013 click here and for a Google map of the Rally Area and stopover locations from Darwin through to Langkawi in Malaysia click here.
Sail Indonesia 2013 left from Darwin on Saturday July 27 at 11 am and during the following three months all participants are invited to participate in a linked series of Events and Cultural Festivals at the different stopovers across the country on the islands of Timor, Banda, Lembata, Wakatobi, Flores, Sulawesi, Bali, Java, Borneo, Belitung and finally on to Batam or Bintan just south of Singapore.
The Indonesian Sail Tourism Association ASWINDO is led by Dr Aji Sularso and you will be able to experience different peoples and their cultures, different lifestyles, different arts, different crafts, wonderful foods and of course different languages. You are welcome to participate in all events and stopovers after your first port of entry in Kupang, as the Indonesia Organising Committee at each port will provide you with hospitality, reception and festivities. You do not have to participate in all the events on our rally as there will simply not be enough time. After you arrive in your first port you can then join the events that suit your schedule. You will be able to see some of the more remote, interesting and less developed parts of Indonesia as you cross the country often away from the well worn tourist areas.
Singapore is a wonderful stopover, ideal for all services, transfers and a break, after your long voyage across Indonesia. Singapore is home to Raffles Marina, a full-fledged country club, offering a first class range of all facilities and services. Located at the west end of Singapore, away from the hustle and bustle of city, you can immerse yourself in our unique nautical surroundings.
Raffles Marina provides easy access to Singapore’s best sailing and cruising waters, a full service boat repair yard and dry stack storage for powered boats. Protected by a solid breakwater, it offers the comfort of a safe and calm stay. Shore power services, freshwater supply and Wireless Internet are also available around the clock. Stunning sea view sunsets, alfresco dining or taking a dip in the landscaped tropical pool are just a few of the treats in store for visitors. Raffles Marina welcomes you!
Malaysia, Sail Indonesia is in partnership with Sail Malaysia, after our Sail Indonesia program across Indonesia ends at the end of October you can then sail on to Singapore then join Sail Malaysia which will take you from Danga Bay located just north of Singapore up the west coast of Malaysia again in a series of linked events finishing at the island of Langkawi in the second week of December.
There will an additional entry fee for the Sail Malaysia event and again you are welcome make your own way up the coast of Malaysia and just participate in the stopovers that suits you schedule.

GILI ISLANDS

Arcing away from the northwest corner of Lombok, the Gili Islands are three idyllic atolls where the sand is still powdery white, the water a clear sparkling turquoise, and the sunsets over Bali’s Agung in the west simply spectacular.
Home to the largest Irish bar on the smallest island in the world, an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant, a turtle hatchery, ominous sounding dive sites like ‘Shark Point’ and miles and miles of white sandy beaches, Lombok’s Gilis, make a surprisingly ideal getaway destination. Getting there is easy and whichever way you chose, you will be guaranteed to see some of Bali and Lombok’s breathtaking scenery.
No motorised transport
Fortunately all three Gili Islands will not permit any type of motorised transport on them and therefore rely on bicycles or horse and carts, locally known as ‘Cidomos’. Bicycles can be rented from any of the kiosks and cost from around Rp20,000 an hour, or better value, ask for the daily rate. Cidomos (local horse and carts) are easily located all over the islands but tend to hang around the harbour and busy spots, arrangements can be made if you are staying in a more remote place on the island, for instance a late ride home…. Haggling is the norm, and always agree a price before your journey.
Families
Although originally discovered by backpackers in the mid eighties, and with a reputation as a party destination, the Gilis now boasts themselves as a great destination suitable for families of all ages. Various new hotels, luxury villas, and boutique bungalows now cater for children and offer good value, some have baby sitting services, and with lots of activities on the islands families are sure to enjoy their holidays to the full.
